CBS Sports Projects New AP Top 25 After Chaotic Week 9 in College Football
World Sports · 20:53:51 - Tuesday, 3 November 2026

CBS Sports has projected the new AP Top 25 college football rankings following a chaotic Week 9 that saw multiple ranked teams fall. The biggest shake-up comes from USC's upset victory over No. 2 Ohio State in Los Angeles, which propels the previously unranked Trojans back into the top 25 and drops the Buckeyes to No. 11.

Projected Top 10

Miami remains at No. 1 after a 38-35 win fueled by Heisman contender Malachi Toney, who caught seven passes for 75 yards and two touchdowns. Georgia moves up to No. 2 with a convincing rivalry win over Florida, while Notre Dame rises to No. 3 after a 35-13 victory over Navy. Utah climbs to No. 4 following a 42-6 halftime lead en route to a blowout of Cincinnati. UCLA holds at No. 5 after a 27-0 shutout of Nevada, keeping its unbeaten record intact. Indiana slips to No. 6 after another close overtime win, while BYU stays at No. 7 with a 27-20 win over Arizona State. Kentucky and Alabama, both idle in Week 9, round out the top 10 at Nos. 8 and 9 respectively.

Notable Movers

Ohio State falls nine spots to No. 11 after its second loss of the season, with concerns about offensive production without injured quarterback Julian Sayin. USC re-enters the rankings at No. 17, giving Lincoln Riley his first win over a top-five opponent as Trojans coach. Iowa jumps into the top 25 at No. 21 after dismantling Wisconsin, while South Carolina appears at No. 22 following a 42-25 rout of Oklahoma behind LaNorris Sellers. New Mexico (No. 23) and Oregon (No. 24) also return to the rankings, and Florida drops to No. 25 after losing three of its last four games.

Projected Drop-Outs

SMU, Northwestern, Arizona, Oklahoma State, and Wisconsin are projected to fall out of the top 25 after Week 9 losses.
