SB Nation Continues Greatest Washington Senators Ranking Series with Round 2
World Sports · 05:51:52 - Thursday, 5 November 2026

SB Nation's Twinkie Town blog has published the second round of its definitive list ranking the greatest Washington Senators players in franchise history. The series, authored by Zach Koenig, examines the legacy of the original American League franchise that played in Washington, D.C. from 1901 to 1960 before relocating to Minnesota and becoming the Twins.

The latest installment features a historic photograph of Hall of Fame pitcher Walter Johnson from the 1924 World Series championship team. Johnson, known as "The Big Train," spent his entire 21-year career with the Senators and remains the franchise's all-time leader in wins, strikeouts, and shutouts. He led Washington to its only World Series title in 1924 and a second pennant in 1925.

The ranking series aims to comprehensively evaluate players across all eras of Senators history, from early stars like Johnson and Goose Goslin to later standouts such as Harmon Killebrew, who began his career in Washington before the move to Minnesota.
