An analysis from SB Nation suggests the St. Louis Cardinals should steer clear of signing veteran starting pitchers in the upcoming free agency period. The article, published November 3, 2026, by Jake Wood, argues that investing in aging starters carries significant risk for a team looking to build sustainable rotation depth.
The piece features a photo of Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Shane Bieber, taken August 20, 2026, at Tropicana Field, as an example of the type of veteran arm the Cardinals might consider but should avoid according to the author's assessment.
